Saturday 7th September is CPRE Countryside Day!

5 August 2024

“Countryside Day” is the CPRE network’s new annual celebration of rural England. This year’s Countryside Day will be on Saturday 7 September and there will be lots of different activities organised by CPRE local groups all over England.

To celebrate Countryside Day 2024, CPRE’s local groups in Berkshire and Oxfordshire have organised a joint cross-border event on the boundary between the two counties. Based at Goring Village Hall, Countryside Day 2024 will feature a variety of displays, activities and talks, and rambles through the local countryside and alongside the River Thames. Guided by experienced walk leaders, our Countryside Day rambles will enable you to explore the unspoilt beauty and heritage of the rural landscape around the historic villages of Goring and Streatley. For the more adventurous, the morning walk is a 2-hour circular route that includes local landmark Streatley Hill, with opportunities for “forest bathing” and mindfulness exercises – and stunning views of the Berkshire Downs. Then, in the afternoon, we’re offering a 45-minute family-friendly nature walk and “wild workout” as the ideal way to spend some time taking in the sights and sounds while keeping fit at the same time!

On the edge of two National Landscapes – the Chilterns and the North Wessex Downs – and with two National Trails running through the area – the ancient Ridgeway and the Thames Path – the countryside of Goring and Streatley represents rural England at its most stunning.

So, join us at Goring Village Hall on Saturday 7 September, between 10am and 4pm. There is ample parking in the village. Tea/coffee and soft drinks will be served during the morning, and in the afternoon there will be a traditional Afternoon Tea with locally-made cakes. Participation in CPRE’s Countryside Day is free of charge but we encourage donations towards CPRE’s work which can be made in cash on the day. However, we do ask for registration in advance so that we can plan accordingly! We are also looking for volunteers who can help serve refreshments, assist the walk leaders, or help the branch office team with the stalls and displays at Goring Village Hall. So, if you would like to participate, please call email cpreberkshire@btopenworld.com or drop a line to CPRE Berkshire, Englefield Estate Office Annex, Englefield Road, Theale, Berkshire RG7 5DU.
